The challenge

The very environment in which VIRTUS operates makes it susceptible to a range of ever-intensifying trends, challenges and threats; as a direct result, a sophisticated approach to security is an absolute imperative.

To add to an already challenging situation, the VIRTUS infrastructure is growing increasingly complex and constantly evolving due to a number of factors: ongoing expansion, growing and developing infrastructures, flexible workforces, users moving outside the corporate perimeter and accessing resources from a range of alternative devices, plus the pressures associated with changing data protection legislation.

The complexity of the infrastructure and multi-vendor tenancy makes managing this environment a huge challenge. If kept in-house, this could lead to escalating costs due to inefficiencies and wastage resulting from ‘just in case’ provisioning, as well as dealing with the issues associated with maintaining critical infrastructure and applications.

Furthermore, VIRTUS was faced with the rising costs associated with investing in the technical skills necessary to keep up with the rapid pace of change of technology, at a time when a global skills shortage (particularly in the cyber security industry) has made resourcing increasingly prohibitive.

So VIRTUS turned to OryxAlign for help.

The solution

In 2012, OryxAlign was invited to perform an extensive review of its infrastructure and business processes to ensure they were performing efficiently and securely.

OryxAlign recommended a fully managed partnership approach to its IT and security requirements, which would relieve VIRTUS of the responsibility of running, maintaining and securing their infrastructure in-house.
