On 11th February 2026, four of our Sustainability and Social Impact (SASI) team had the privilege of attending the Sustainability in Tech Summit and Awards at the National Gallery in London. As one of the UK’s leading events celebrating innovation and sustainability in technology, the summit brings together tech companies of all sizes to share insights and explore practical strategies for embedding greener practices across operations.
Running alongside the summit were the Sustainability in Tech Awards, which recognise organisations and individuals making a tangible impact on environmental and net-zero goals. With awards covering everything from circular economy initiatives to sustainability leadership, the event showcases the full spectrum of innovation in the tech industry.
OryxAlign were shortlisted for the 'Social Impact' category, and Megan Stiles, Business Operations Manager was shortlisted for the 'Unsung Hero (Sustainability/Social Impact)' category.
A defining message from the day was the trajectory of our own industry. While many sectors are successfully reducing carbon emissions, the technology industry is seeing emissions rise due to growing global demand. If we continue on this path, projections suggest the sector could account for 35.1% of global carbon emissions by 2050.
AI is advancing rapidly, but its environmental and governance implications still require equal attention. The energy demands of large-scale AI models and data centres are significant, and discussions highlighted the environmental considerations of different digital platforms, alongside the critical importance of data security and robust governance frameworks.
Responsible AI is not a compliance exercise – it’s a strategic necessity. Organisations need clear AI strategies that balance innovation with environmental impact, security and long-term resilience.
The summit challenged the industry to think beyond mitigation and towards transformation. That means reducing the energy intensity of devices, increasing awareness of the carbon impact of everyday digital behaviours, and using AI to optimise renewable energy infrastructure. Smart buildings and intelligent systems are already demonstrating how technology can actively reduce waste and improve efficiency.
The business case is now undeniable. Sustainability drives return on investment through regulatory compliance, stronger supply chain positioning and competitive advantage in tenders. It also plays a critical role in attracting and retaining talent, as employees increasingly seek organisations aligned with their values.
Perhaps the most important message was the need for transparency. Progress depends on accurate, reliable data and collaborative working across industries and supply chains. We are only as strong as the data we share, and even small actions can create wider ripple effects.
Credible net-zero pathways, open reporting and honest dialogue are fundamental to accelerating meaningful change.
The Sustainability in Tech Summit & Awards reinforced a clear reality: the future of technology will be defined not just by innovation, but by accountability.
At OryxAlign, we remain committed to ensuring that progress and responsibility go hand in hand by embedding transparency, responsible innovation and measurable impact into the way we operate and support our clients. Read our annual ESG report here to find out more.
