Increasing network signal strengths for Solace Women’s Aid registered charity
Solace is London’s largest women’s domestic violence charity, supporting survivors who require access to resources through refuge houses. As a registered charity, budget control is crucial.
Solace wanted their Wi-Fi revised at the refuge houses, as poor and unstable connections on lower and upper floors often rendered it unusable for practical purposes. There were only two access points: one in the main office and another in the old office, with no additional access points or extenders in place.
Thick internal walls also caused signal loss throughout key areas. Solace needed a solution to ensure strong, reliable Wi-Fi across the entire building.
OryxAlign carried out a full wireless survey of the properties, using heat maps to identify coverage gaps and assess where improvements were needed. Based on this, we designed a solution using high-grade Cisco and Meraki equipment to deliver consistent signal strength throughout the homes.
We relocated one access point to a more strategic location to maximise coverage. Additional access points were installed where the signal was weakest, helping to stabilise the connection across all floors.
There was also an implementation of security cages as a measure for the safeguarding and protection of access points distributed throughout the residence.
Our engineers handled all on-site work with care. Fully aware of the sensitivity of the setting, the team worked discreetly to minimise disruption for residents and staff.
The improved setup now delivers reliable, high-quality Wi-Fi throughout the building. It supports both operational needs and service users, who rely on stable connectivity for communication, appointments and access to support.
The Cisco and Meraki solution also allows Solace to manage their network easily through a central dashboard, reducing the risk of unexpected issues and simplifying long-term maintenance.
The new setup now serves as a model for future upgrades. As Solace continues to develop its properties, this approach can be rolled out across other homes to ensure consistent, effective network coverage.
