Providing client-side technical oversight and design coordination for a complex, multi-building AI data centre campus.
A Nordic-based data centre operator required specialist technical consultancy to support the development of a complex, multi-building AI data centre campus.
The scale and critical nature of the development meant that a wide range of technology and building systems needed to operate as part of a cohesive campus-wide environment. These included the Building Management System (BMS), Access Control, CCTV, Intercom and Intruder Detection systems, alongside active IT networking, passive structured cabling and the associated communications infrastructure.
With technology, electrical, mechanical, architectural and specialist equipment packages being developed in parallel, one of the key challenges was managing the significant number of interfaces and dependencies between individual systems. Without effective coordination during design, these interfaces had the potential to create integration issues later during installation, commissioning and operation.
The client therefore needed an experienced technology partner capable of providing independent, client-side technical oversight – challenging designs, identifying risks and ensuring that the wider technology architecture was considered as an integrated whole.
OryxAlign acted as the client’s technical representative, providing independent oversight and design coordination across the campus technology infrastructure.
Our team reviewed and challenged system designs, coordinating requirements across technology, electrical, mechanical, architectural and specialist packages, with a focus on identifying interfaces and resolving integration risks early in the design process.
OryxAlign provided oversight of the Cisco-based active network supporting critical operational and building services, alongside the passive infrastructure, including backbone fibre, structured cabling, containment, communications spaces and field connectivity. Communications rooms were also reviewed with consideration for capacity, power, cooling, maintainability and future expansion.
Security systems – including Access Control, CCTV, Intercom and Intruder Detection – were coordinated as part of the wider technology architecture. OryxAlign also oversaw BMS integration with critical plant and specialist equipment, including modular power systems, hydro modules and generators.
By providing a central point of technical oversight, OryxAlign helped bring together network, security, BMS and wider building services requirements into a coordinated campus-wide technology strategy.
The consultancy resulted in improved design coordination and reduced integration risk across the technology and building systems infrastructure.
By providing client-side technical oversight across BMS, security, active networking and passive infrastructure, we helped the client maintain a coordinated technology strategy across the multi-building campus.
Our involvement helped ensure that the technology infrastructure was developed as a coordinated whole, supporting the client's requirements for a resilient, integrated and operationally effective data centre environment.
