Career journeys often build on the experiences people bring with them, and Bradley’s story is a great example of that in action. After working at SDT in a managed services role, he joined OryxAlign as part of the acquisition and has continued to grow his skills within the team.
Bradley, who’s based in our Cape Town office, shares what his role involves, what the culture feels like day-to-day and what support looks like in practice.
I was already working at SDT before it was acquired by OryxAlign, which was quite similar to what I do now, making sure clients are happy, keeping everything running smoothly and troubleshooting any issues across their systems and devices.
I’m a Service Desk Engineer, and so I manage services for our clients and help to fix any issues to keep things running as they should.
Before the acquisition, I worked at SDT for around three years and have been with OryxAlign since. It felt like a natural move into OryxAlign, continuing the same kind of work but within a new environment and wider team. I’ve always loved computers from a young age, and because technology is always upgrading there’s something new coming out every year that you need to train yourself on. It's a never-ending knowledge loop and OryxAlign lets me pass that knowledge on.
For me, it was how supported and listened to I felt. It’s easy to speak up, and you know people will take the time to hear you out. IT has many fields and people are busy, but I can ask my colleague something and they’ll respond immediately to it.
Being in a similar role before has allowed me to build on what I already knew but also continue developing my knowledge in handling different systems day-to-day. I’ve also grown in confidence and making sure our clients are happy, so that whenever I answer a call, a client will be excited to hear from me.
It’s the people. You spend a lot of time with your team, so it makes a big difference that everyone gets on well. I’ve even ended up becoming really close with people I might not have expected, which just shows how easy it is to connect with others here. Anything you do, you won't get judged on. Instead, they will try and teach you.
I feel very supported and listened to. If I need help or want to learn something new, there’s always someone there to guide me.
Whenever I raise a concern, it’s always answered as soon as possible. That's the best thing. Sometimes when you send a message you might wonder, ‘what are they going to think of me’, and they’ll just be like, ‘it’s okay, we see what you mean’ and respond to you with a positive and helpful response.
I’d say it’s very positive and professional. It’s such a friendly environment where everyone gets along and supports each other, and how often can I say my best friend is double my age! We also moved to a new office in Cape Town a few months ago and it's a great space to work from, it’s also perfect for walking around and checking out the local spots.
The access to learning resources like Udemy makes a big difference. If there’s something you want to learn, you can go and study it in your own time, and if you want to take it further, your manager will support you with exams and development.
At OryxAlign, we focus on creating an environment where people feel supported, heard and able to keep developing their skills. Bradley’s experience shows how continuity, combined with the right culture, can make a real difference day-to-day.
