20 Fenchurch Street was designed by Rafael Viñoly, the world-renowned Uruguayan architect and unveiled to great acclaim in 2014. Nicknamed ‘The Walkie-Talkie’ because of its distinctive shape, it is stunning not only on an aesthetic level, but has literally turned on its head the idea that buildings having to be smaller at the top. Designed for maximum efficiency and comfort, this 38-storey, 160 m (525 ft) tall building offers 64,103 m² (690,000 sq ft) of office space with floorplates that get larger in size as the floors ascend. This landmark address is occupied by some of the world’s leading businesses, who enjoy expansive views from every floor, while ensuring the seamless movement and flow of its occupants through innovations such as the high-capacity double-deck lifts. Furthermore, a dedicated express lift leads directly to the stunning Sky Garden; a unique public space that spans three storeys and offers 360-degree uninterrupted views across the City of London.

In just the few years since the building was completed, advances in technology have resulted in some profound and far-reaching changes across a wide range of IT services and functionality.
By 2017, the landlord realised that the management of the existing IT infrastructure needed to be improved. As a result, 20 Fenchurch Street was looking to engage a new partner who would bring the critical network infrastructure and associated services up to the standard worthy of this iconic building.
OryxAlign was quick to demonstrate that it not only talks the talk but also walks the walk; by submitting a comprehensive tender backed up by a proven track record in the commercial property sector that resulted in it being immediately awarded the contract.
To start with, OryxAlign set about providing an effective working plan for the comprehensive management, support and monitoring of the critical network infrastructure throughout the entire building. The programme also covered a host of additional services including the management of the satellite TV, DAS and audio-visual infrastructure, in order to provide occupants with the most up-to-date facilities.
Furthermore, the service delivery team at OryxAlign proved that the sky was no limit by also taking on the management, monitoring and maintenance of the Sky Garden’s responsive and highly efficient public wireless infrastructure, together with the hosting and management of the Sky Garden website.
Crucially, with growing concerns about cyber-security OryxAlign set about improving the security and monitoring of the internet connectivity coming into the building and network infrastructure as a whole. This was combined with on-going cyber-security services and consulting, expert advice on GDPR, and the management of all 3rd party technology service providers.
To ensure the continuing success of the partnership, OryxAlign also delivers a number of crucial additional services, such as infrastructure life-cycle management and refresh, asset management, and the ongoing support of all users across the facilities and building management teams.
